The journey of a thousand miles begin with a single step.
-Lan Tzu
Travelling to some place every once in a while is on almost everyone’s bucket list, especially in today’s world where everything is so fast-paced. Nowadays, everyone is trying to seek little time to have fun with their friends and family or just to enjoy solitude from their daily hustle and I’m no different.
Every single trip fills my heart and soul with joy beyond imagination. Travelling always provides me new experience or even better virtue to see life. But this was not the case when I was young. When I was younger, after every trip I got so excited about sharing stories and making everyone see the pictures from the trip. But as I’m growing, now I’m gradually comprehending the true meaning of travelling.
I’ve learnt a lot of things through travelling and today I’m gonna share with you some of them.
1. Gratitude :
Whenever I go to some remote place where, there is no internet connection or any other modern-day facility, and people have to work hard for basic everyday commodities, I feel thankful every single time. As I don’t have to put much effort into these things because it is so BASIC…but now I realized, not for everyone.
2. Open-mindedness :
Through travelling I got a chance to meet people with totally different cultures, cuisine, music etc. And with time, I have developed a sense of adaptability towards differences. I’ve started accepting and embracing those differences. Travelling provides the opportunity to step out of the comfort zone and get exposed to a range of perspectives and worldviews.
3. Communication skills :
Travelling alone is a dream of many introverts. So, even if you’re an introvert like me, you may get involved in some lifelong friendships through it. Because, it gives you a chance to talk to a stranger like never before as no one knows you, and provides you the freedom to be yourself without trying to fit in some norm. Different cultures have different ways of meeting and greeting. So, at the end of your trip, you’re gonna end up adapting some new ways to communicate.
4. Health :
Travel often involves walking, hiking, exploring new places or some outdoor activities which simply help in maintaining a person’s overall physical health. In addition to this, taking a break from daily routine and immersing oneself in a new environment reduces stress level. Furthermore, it also provides mental stimulation which can enhance one’s creativity.
5. Problem-solving skills :
Travelling exposes a person to unfamiliar situations, cultures and landscapes which challenges the existing way of thinking. Sometimes we need to decide on the go. So, one needs to come up with innovative solutions. Also, we meet new people during travelling and share diverse perspectives to solve the same problem. All of this contributes to broadening the existing perspective and makes one flexible and adaptable to think out of the box.
In the end, travelling provides me a better understanding of myself and the world around me. And now I’m more eager to learn new things with every trip than just collecting memories. All in all, it is simply helping me to become a better person.
